Besides coaching groups through the Sacramento Running Association (SRA), I also coach a handful of local individuals at one time, from the 5k distance to the marathon. I focus on a small number of athletes in order to give each one the personal attention they deserve.
If you choose the personal coaching option, I will watch you run in order to assess your biomechanics and running form - something “online coaching” can not provide. Also, I believe it is important for you understand the purpose of each workout, so later you can be more savvy about choosing which workouts are specific to your training needs rather than just doing a friend’s workout because it is convenient. My goal is to help you improve all aspects of your running: form, stretching, injury prevention, recovery, core strength, nutrition.
As a personal coach, I can help take your running to a new level – whether you are just starting out as a new runner or you are trying to qualify for Boston. My customized training plans are designed specifically for you and where you are in your training.
Read what Theresa, one of my athletes, says about my coaching:
(Theresa is 63 years old and was afraid to get back into the racing scene prior to my coaching.)
“Mary is a remarkable coach. She individualizes her coaching to my personal goals and the details of my running efficiency. My running has improved notably and I have not had to sacrifice my enjoyment of it. She has inspired my re-engagement in running. She takes my running seriously – a quality in a coach that is invaluable to an aging, recreational runner like myself. And she is nice. I started with her in April 2011 and by August I lost 12 pounds and have kept it off and raced in several 5ks, significantly decreasing my times. In August Theresa broke 33 min for her 5k. “Mary, In my enthusiasm I neglected to thank-you- without your help and very importantly believing in me I would not have accomplished my 32:49 5K today.”
Last November she ran over a minute faster at the Save Haven 5k. Time 31:21 – pace 10:09 – a pace that she has not run since she was 6 years younger.
And, from Iain:
“Even though I consider myself an experienced runner, I have gained valuable training insight and enthusiastic support from Mary. She offers a fresh perspective and has been a wonderful sounding board for training plans and racing strategies. She understands that no one size fits all, and that the best training advice is that which has been tailored to the individual strengths and weaknesses of the runner she is coaching.”
